Dr Richard Fitton

My key areas of expertise are in the areas of the measurement of the energy performance of buildings and monitoring buildings using smart meters and remote sensing.  I have an industry background of Energy Engineering and am a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS).  Both of these roles have involved many retrofit projects of both commercial and domestic buildings and the associated monitoring of their performance.

I run two research facilities at the University; the Smart Meters>Smart Homes Lab and the Energy House. I have carried out research for many large multinational companies, on new energy efficient technologies, and also several large scale building physics investigations into subjects such as the co-heating test and whole house heat loss methodologies, and researching the effects of various different forms of insulation.

My PhD research examined the real world performance of retrofit measures, and the use of sensors in building to validate the effectiveness of energy efficient interventions.
